The Classic Gem that helped create what Chianti is known for today. This wine is an excellent and classic example of a traditional style Chianti Riserva.
Chianti, as a wine, is linked to a precise well-defined geographical area, and is in fact a regional product. As long ago as 1716, a grand ducal decree extended the production limits beyond the hilly zone recognized as Chianti. It was in 1932 that because of the wines success in Italy and throughout the world, was it definitively sanctioned by a ministerial decree. Chianti is a wine of extremely ancient origin but it was only in the middle ages that it began to be identified by the name of the geographical area in which is was produced. The first evidence of the name transfer was noted in text from 1383 to 1410.
Winemaker Notes:
Aging in barriques gives this wine its classic, old world style character and complexity. The oak gives this wine a brilliant and deep ruby red color with garnet hues. The nose is wide, full, and persistent with intense lingering aromas of delicious fruit and spiced notes, true to its old world characteristics. Elegant and well balanced, this wine is fruit forward and soft, with gentle tannins that are in perfect balance with the acidity of the wine, with subtle flavors vanilla, cocoa, and spice. A smooth, fruit forward body that is soft and warm, with a long, slightly dry, velvety and persistent finish. This wine becomes more refined for 5–8 years.
At its best when opened or decanted 30 to 45 minutes or longer prior to serving.

Pairs well with Florentine style steak, roasts, wild game, and pasta.
