Wine Notes:

A classic old world gem from the foothills of the Italian Alps; Smooth and Fresh.

The earliest recorded mention of Merlot was in the notes of a local Bordeaux official who in 1784 labeled wine made from the grape in the Libournais region as one of the area's best. The name comes from the French regional "patois" word "merlot", which means "young blackbird" ("merle" is the French word for several kinds of thrushes, including blackbirds); the naming came either because of the grape's beautiful dark-blue color, or due to blackbirds' fondness for grapes. It was first recorded in Italy around Venice under the synonym Bordò in 1855, and noted to be introduced to help support French wine production. In Italy over the years the grape has taken on its own wonderful, rich character in and is now known as a true northern Italian classic. The Merlot grape is often blended with Sangiovese to give the wine a similar softening effect as the Bordeaux blends. This wine is an excellent example of the simple values of traditional, northern Italian wine making that are present in this fresh, smooth, and flavorful, easy to drink Merlot del Veneto. This wine has become a traditional table favorite of northern Italy and comes from one of the foremost wine regions known for its quality wine production.

Winemaker Notes:

At sight, is a deep ruby red color with garnet hues. The bouquet is wide, herbaceous, and delicate. On the palate it is fruit forward and smooth, nicely tannic, very well balanced, with a long, delicious and persistent finish. Wines from this appellation are usually suited to moderate aging, and at their best drunk young.

Pairing:

Pairs wonderfully with roasted meats, barbeque, pasta, and savory fish dishes as well.
