Wine Notes:

An award winning southern classic white wine of the sea known for its exceptional structure, balance and traditional character, especially when paired with seafood.

From the renowned wine region of Salento on the peninsula of Puglia, this wine hails from the regions center of attention, and is known specifically as the white wine for cuisine of the sea. This amazing wine is an example of the high quality white wines produced in the south which were originally influenced by the wonderful Mediterranean cuisines, and most notably, the delicious seafood that is prominent in the region. Malvasia (also known as Malvazia) is a group of wine grape varieties grown historically in the Mediterranean region and the island of Madeira, but now grown in many of the winemaking regions of the world. The Malvasia grape is of Greek origin, but there is some controversy over exactly where it originated and what grape varieties were its ancestors. A highly prized wine named Malvasia in Italian, Malvoisie in French, Malmsey in English and Malvasier in German, was produced in Greece (and perhaps Crete) in the 14th to 16th centuries. This early Malmsey wine was carried to Italy, France, and northern Europe by the Venetians and other Italian merchants. In Greece, there is a variety known as Monemvasia. In Western Europe, a common variety of Malvasia is known as Malvasia Bianca, from its reputed origin in that area. The Monemvasia grape was long thought to be ancestral to the western European Malvasia varieties; however, recent DNA analysis does not suggest a close relationship between Monemvasia and any Malvasia varieties.

Winemaker Notes:

At sight this wine is a concentrated golden straw yellow color with hints of green. The bouquet is nice, crisp and persistent, with citrus and white melon, slight influences and minerality of the sea, and a subtle blend of floral and fruity accents which are austere and sweet. The taste is crisp, fresh, long and persistent on the palate, and always pleasant and delicious.

This wine may be enjoyed for 3–4 years during which time it will retain all its freshness.

Pairing:

A wine that reaches its best when served with fresh fish, shellfish, risotto, and will always enhance the flavors of cuisine of the sea.
