Wine Notes:

The most well known and classic southern Italian red blend and an exceptional example of the traditional style quality wines produced in Salento and around the region of Puglia.

This wine hails from the renowned wine producing region of Salento, and is named after Salice Salentino, a small town in the southern part of Puglia situated to the north of Lecce in an area of vineyards and olive orchards with scattered farmhouses and ancient towers. It is bounded with the province of Taranto to the northwest and the province of Brindisi to the north, on the peninsula. It is made from Negroamaro, for the most part, and blended with Malvasia Nera. The vineyards of this southern part of Puglia have been planted almost exclusively in Negroamaro for centuries. This wine is part of an assortment of wines that have been researched and developed over many, many years (since the 6th century) to accentuate the intrinsic value of the Puglia region were the Negroamaro grape is the jewel of all grapes in the region. This classic red blend is one of the most well known wines from southern Italy and probably the most well known wine from Salento.

Winemaker Notes:

At sight this wine is a concentrated deep purple red color. The bouquet is persistent with the austerity of Negroamaro and the gentle sweetness of Malvasia Nera. The delicious nose has strong scents of the oak barriques, ripe red fruits, licorice, and a hint of green figs. The taste is long on the palate with a nice tannin expression, expressed in density more than in weight, and a pleasant acid vein that fills every corner of the mouth, leading to a long, fulfilling finish.

This wine can be enjoyed young, but becomes more refined for 5–8 years.
At its best when opened or decanted 30 to 45 minutes or longer prior to serving.

Pairing:

Pairs well with roasted meats, barbeque, pasta, fried fish, shellfish, and risotto.
