Wine Notes:

Made from the oldest and one of the most cultivated grapes in all of Italy, the vineyards for this traditional old world style Asti Spumante were founded in the 9th Century.

The three neighboring Provinces of Asti, Cuneo, and Alessandria incorporate the Langhe and Monferrato hill region in the centre of Piedmont; limestone and sandstone deposits laid down by the retreating Adriatic some 5 million years ago, and are home to one of Italy's finest and famous sparkling wines. Asti city is in the centre of the area and is the major city of this notable wine district. Perhaps the wine most famously associated with Asti worldwide is the sparkling Asti Spumante DOCG. The name today is usually shortened to 'Asti' in order to avoid associations with the many wines of dubious quality which are labeled as Spumante. It is made solely from the Moscato Bianco, or white Muscat grape. The Moscato variety has been cultivated in the Asti area since extremely ancient times. The grape was citied in the Statutes of the Commune of Cannali as long ago as the 12th Century. According to an old legend of the Asti district, Moscato origins go back to the time of Stanzianelli, who founded the community of Asti. It has been found in historical text that point to the vineyards of the winery named Abbazia, in the producing region of Asti, where Moscato grapes originated; that the Abbazia vineyards are the birthplace of Moscato, which date back to the 9th Century.

Winemaker Notes:

At sight the color is straw yellow with golden highlights. On the nose it is wide and full with an intense musk scent. On the palate this wine is fine, sweet and immediate, with persistent foam and a long flavorful finish.

Pairing:

Excellent wine for celebration, as a starter, with dessert, fruit, any meal, and simply by the glass anytime.
